Department of English

The Department of English had its humble inception in Naipunnya College with short-term vocational courses provided for the neighboring community in and around campus. The Department of English at NIMIT was formally established in the year 2015, and since then, it has grown exponentially. At present, it is home to highly qualified faculty, undergraduate majors, and graduate students. With faculty committed to developing an interdisciplinary and creative curriculum, the department equips students with not only a rigorous knowledge of the subject but also opens doors to employment opportunities and research.

The Department is proactive throughout the year and engages with the entire student community by hosting literary events, seminars, workshops, research forums, and conferences. The department is also responsible for making the college magazine every year, and therefore is vital in collating faculty and student work for publishing. The distinguishing factor of the department is that it focuses not only on a historically and culturally informed curriculum of anglophone literature but also on soft skill training, listening, speaking, reading, and writing (LSRW skills) through add-on and common courses for all students despite the subject they are majoring in.

The mission of the department is to foster knowledge and love for literature and culture among students and to guide them with the language competency required to navigate a demanding world. Currently, the department of English offers postgraduate and undergraduate degrees in English Language and Literature with continuous innovation. The department also offers common courses in general English and complementary papers on the Indian constitution and journalism. The department holds a yearly research forum for undergraduate students that platforms their research projects in front of faculty and peers with the goal of growing a healthy academic space within Naipunnya.
