Department of Hotel Management

The Department of Hotel Management at NIMIT comprehensively focuses on all aspects of hospitality management and services. The department encompasses state-of-the-art infrastructure and is unique in its approach toward professionalism whereby students receive the best training that matches international standards of service and hospitality. The courses offered by the department are designed for those aspiring to be professionals in the field of the hospitality industry. Our goal is to provide students with a knowledge and understanding of operations of hospitality sectors, star hotels, restaurants, front and back-office operations, housekeeping, culinary, food, beverage, marketing, and sales.

Under the visionary leadership of Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kalapurackal and Rev. Fr. Paul Kaithotungal, the department was formally established in 2002 and is also the first college in Kerala to offer a University degree in Hotel Management affiliated to Calicut University. The curriculum developed by the department is in response to the huge industry demands for people with expertise in hospitality management. The department maintains a training restaurant which is a replica of a hotel restaurant, with all the furniture and fixtures, that give a simulated effect for the trainee. Similarly, the department maintains food production labs (Basic, Quantity, and Advanced) that are well set with the equipment required for a real hotel kitchen. The trainee is provided with an individual work table, cooking range, tool kit, and other accessories. With daily demos and individual mentoring, students build up their confidence to become expert chefs in a short period. In 2004, the department was awarded the Best Hotel Management Institute by the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala.

The department offers B.Sc. Hotel Management and Catering Science, B.Sc. Hotel Management & Culinary Arts, BHA Bachelor of Hotel Administration, and one-year craftsmanship courses. Presently, the department is home to undergraduate students, faculty members, and staff with Mr. Robert Fernandez heading the department.
