Programmes Offered
The Department of Social Work is dedicated to shaping socially committed, professionally competent, and ethically grounded individuals who can respond effectively to the evolving social realities of contemporary society. The department strives to develop students into compassionate professionals, leaders, and change makers through a balanced integration of academic learning, practical exposure, research, and community engagement.
The department offers both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Social Work- BSW (Honours) and MSW. The Master of Social Work (MSW) programme was introduced in 2024 under NIMIT, followed by the commencement of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW Honours) programme in 2025. These programmes are designed to equip students with theoretical knowledge, professional skills, research aptitude, and field-based competencies required for effective social work practice.
The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning through fieldwork practicum, internships, rural and urban community exposure programmes, observational visits, research projects, seminars, workshops, commemorative day observations, national study tours, paper presentations, and participation in conferences and academic publications. The department also promotes collaborations with NGOs, institutions, hospitals, industries, schools, and community organizations to provide students with wider professional exposure and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
The Department of Social Work prepares students for diverse professional fields including community development, medical and psychiatric social work, child welfare, school social work, family and gender studies, rural and tribal development, counselling, corporate social responsibility, human resource management, disaster management, social policy advocacy, and non-governmental organizations.
With a learner-centered and socially responsive approach, the department aims to foster critical thinking, leadership, social responsibility, and professional ethics among students. By combining classroom education with real-world practice, the Department of Social Work envisions building a generation of skilled professionals committed to creating an inclusive, just, and sustainable society.
