The PG Department of English at Naipunnya College, Pongam hosted our annual department literature festival on the 5th and 9th of January 2023. As part of our fundraising campaign, we held a film festival from 13th to 19th December 2022 from 2:15 to 4:00 pm. The films that were screened were as follows. All screenings of the films were held at the Main block seminar hall with full air-conditioning in order to emulate a real theatre effect.

Synopsis of films:
Orphan. (2009 ‧ Horror/Thriller ‧ 2h 3m)
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by David Leslie Johnson. Orphan is a psychological horror thriller about Esther, a seemingly bright and well-behaved little girl. Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga star as a couple who adopt a 9-year-old Esther after losing their own baby only to slowly discover that their new daughter has a sinister side to her. There is something definitely wrong with Esther. Death
doesn’t follow Esther, she chases it. Screening held on Tuesday, 13th December 2022 from 2:15 pm to 4:15 pm. Tickets: Rs 50. Spirited Away (2001 ‧ Fantasy/Adventure ‧ 2h 5m)
Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Spirited Away tells the story of a 10-year-old girl named Chihiro who, when traveling with her parents, stumbles across what appears to be an abandoned theme park. As they explore, the parents are transformed into giant pigs, and Chihiro soon realizes that the park is occupied by strange, supernatural spirits. Screening held on Wednesday, 14th December 2022 at
the Main block seminar hall, from 2:15 to 4:15 pm. Tickets: Rs 50. Minnal Murali (2021 ‧ Action/Adventure ‧ 2h 39m)

Directed by Basil Joseph. Written by Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew, Minnal Murali is a home-grown superhero film about the comic rise of a superhero. Jaison, a young tailor, gains superpowers after being struck by lightning. However, he is not the only person struck by lightning that day. Can Jaison thwart an unexpected villain from his own town? Can he be the superhero we all need? Screening held on Thursday, 15th December 2022 at the Main Block Seminar hall from 2:15 to 5:00 pm. Tickets: Rs 50.
