The Department of Computer Science provides undergraduate and postgraduate education in both theoretical and applied foundations of information technology. Our courses focus on amplifying student potential for high-quality careers and fostering a competitive edge in a global work environment. The Department of Computer Science at NIMIT was formally established in 2002 with the introduction of a BSc in Computer Science affiliated with the University of Calicut with an intake of 36 students. Our first batch graduated in the year 2005. Ever since then, the department has continuously found innovative ways to impart quality education. Our curriculum is designed by taking into account the latest developments in the world of computing, with an interdisciplinary component through which students are given a strong foundation in the areas of technology, communications, and management. Computing systems are now integrated into virtually every sphere of life, and the doors to new opportunities are always open.
The department hosts an esteemed group of faculty members and their objective is to deliver the best education to students in both theoretical and applied foundations of computer science. The department has a group of dedicated regular and visiting faculty who are experts in their field of work. Our educators strive to develop a conducive atmosphere for research and learning in various advanced areas of Computer Science and Information Technology. Faculty hiring is very selective and the department continuously looks for brilliant computer scientists and innovators. Research is heavily promoted amongst faculty members at NIMIT, and all are highly encouraged to work and publish their research projects. The department offers exciting opportunities to expand the intellectual horizons of a student through distinguished-lecture series, student clubs, socially relevant projects, and research projects.
Currently, we offer BSc Computer science and MSc Computer science and BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications).
