About the Department
The Department of Commerce at Naipunnya College was established in 2002. Over the past 25 years, it has grown into one of the largest and most vibrant departments on campus. Affiliated with the University of Calicut, the department offers B.Com programmes (Finance, Computer Application, and Co-operation), BBA (Marketing), and M.Com (Finance), integrating academic excellence with industry relevance.
In addition to regular undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the department offers professional add-on courses such as ACCA, CMA, Aviation and Airport Management, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management to enhance global career opportunities. The department also provides dedicated coaching for CA Foundation and CA Intermediate, ensuring strong conceptual clarity and exam-oriented preparation. At present, more than 600 students are enrolled in various commerce programmes.
The department is supported by a team of 22 highly qualified faculty members, including several PhD holders and professionally qualified experts, who are committed to nurturing innovative, ethically grounded, and socially responsible graduates. Students benefit from fully digitized classrooms and modern laboratories. Experiential learning is encouraged through industry interactions, outbound programmes, and initiatives such as the “Nimitian Harvest” Friday Market, where students gain real-time business exposure. Internships, regular industrial visits, and outreach activities further enhance students’ personal and professional skills.
Placement training provided by the College Training Department from the first year onwards equips students to secure positions in reputed companies and organizations upon completion of their programmes. With an excellent track record in academics and placements, the department continues to shape globally competent commerce professionals under the leadership of Dr. Mathew Jose K, who has been serving for the past eight years after his retirement as Head and Dean of the Department of Commerce at Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Kochi.
